Members of Spiro Schools concert and jazz bands traveled to Winter Park, Colorado to compete in a Ski-Music Festival, April 3-7.  Concert band received an Outstanding Rating in Class 3A and also won Best in Class 3A for Concert Band.  Spiro's Jazz Band received an Outstanding Rating in Class 3A Jazz, and won Overall Runner-Up Class 3A Jazz.  Along with their performances, students and chaperones had the opportunity to learn how to ski or snowboard while in the beautiful Colorado Rockies.  Others that chose not to ski or snow board had the opportunity to go snow tubing, take snow shoe or snow-cat tours, and ride the gondola up the mountain to take in the scenery.   "This trip, like all of our trips, offers the opportunity to see and experience new places," stated Mrs. Cumpton, band director.

The Spiro Band program plans out-of-state trips every 2-3 years, which allows students and parents alike, opportunities they might not otherwise be able to do.  Even though the next trip will be a couple of years away, planning will begin almost immediately.   The band and parent booster programs would like to thank both the school district and the community of Spiro, for its continued support of music education in our school system.   Mrs. Cumpton finished by saying, "With so many unknowns in our state, we are extremely grateful for what our students are able to be a part of.  I am extremely proud of our students and how well they represented our school and community.  I feel honored to receive complements from the travel company staff about our students and how well behaved they are.  Their behavior truly shows a reflection on their character.  I'm proud to be their band director, and I am proud to be a part of their life experiences."
